Flight of the Bumblebee

Lisa Costanzo

Friday, October 2, 2015

Opening Reception: Friday, October 2, 5:30pm – 8:00pm.

This new body of work considers the notion of portraiture applied to objects and clothing. My subject matter is drawn from my personal history – family. It includes personal objects, clothing, home movies, music, and photographs. These things hold memory and meaning and are where I find my inspiration.
The items pictured here are the elements that remind me the most of my father: his trick riding saddle, riding boots and even the trumpet that he endlessly played “Flight of the Bumble Bee” on (a little too often sometimes) during my childhood.
By commemorating family history, and recording slices of time, these untraditional portraits capture just a glimpse of my father and chronicle his unique character.
The format of the pieces jump in scale from very small and intimate to large and substantial and include a range studies to finished pieces. Also included is a reworked home movie with added music – “Flight of the Bumblebee”.
