Sunday, March 8, 2 pm, Landscape, Art, and Climate Science with Seidman and fellow artist Laurie Kaplowitz:   This event in Laconia Gallery will focus on science and art, including the Synergy Project in which Seidman and Kaplowitz are involved.  The Synergy Project is a collaborative program that pairs artists with research scientists from institutions such as  Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, University of Rhode Island (URI), and University of Connecticut.  Kaplowitz and Seidman are working with scientists from Woods Hole and URI to create art from scientific research.  Using art to interpret the science explaining the many ways humans are changing our planet reminds us that to mitigate climate change, we humans need to rejoin the dance of our planet.

Work by Katha Seidman

In the beginning, there was Earth, then there was Air, and then there was Water. And then we humans were given Fire. We use Fire to keep us warm and to cook our food. We use Fire to turn off the dark and to build ever more useful machines. But by burning Earth, we have polluted our Air and poisoned our Water. We must stop pretending we are here to conquer the Elements, and learn, again, how to join the deep-time dance of our Planet.
