Death Is Just A Rumor Spread By Life is a multimedia installation by Ben Sloat that explores ideas of transition, experience, and time. The central piece of the exhibition, Fate Machine contains aspects of time that are continuous or in suspension. With its assemblage of components (glass door, magpie, furniture, radio, steps), alluding to indoor, outdoor, and neutral spaces, it invites varied interactions from the viewer.
Ben Sloat is a multimedia artist who works primarily in a photographic realm. His range of projects touch upon themes as diverse as iconography, identity, and the narrative. A New York native, he is a graduate of UC Berkeley (’99) and the Tufts/SMFA graduate program (’05). Recent exhibitions include solo shows at ST Gallery, Brooklyn, Front Gallery, Oakland, CA and group exhibitions at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the OH&T Gallery, where he is represented.
Sloat teaches photography, new media, and photo history at the Art Institute of Boston.
